I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Fraud (e.g. bogus callers, courier fraud, cyber crime), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. ⚠️ Community Warning – Elderly Residents Being Targeted by Cold Caller ⚠️
We have received reports of individuals cold calling at properties and asking elderly residents for money. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Prevention Advice - Do not hand over money to anyone who knocks at your door unexpectedly. - Always ask for identification and verify it with the company or organisation they claim to represent. - Do not feel pressured into making immediate decisions or payments. - Keep your door locked while speaking to unknown callers and use a door chain if you have one. - Never allow strangers into your home unless you are expecting them and are satisfied they are genuine. - Speak to family, friends, or neighbours before making any financial decisions requested by a caller. - If you feel threatened, unsafe, or believe a crime is in progress, call 999 immediately. - Report suspicious callers and incidents to 101 so information can be shared and investigated.
Please check in on elderly relatives, friends, and neighbours to ensure they are aware of this scam and know how to protect themselves.
Remember: Genuine organisations will not pressure you into handing over cash at your doorstep. Stay alert and look out for one another.
Thank you
